Believe it or not, people search the Internet on a daily basis, looking for psychic tests to let them know whether or not they’ve got psychic powers. Often, these are people who may have had the first glimmer of a supernatural ability or, alternatively, they’re just bored and looking for some way to pass the time.
However, for those of us who genuinely do want to know whether or not we’ve got that little bit extra, the Internet is loaded with tests just waiting for you to answer their questions. But the big question is: are these online psychic tests accurate or are they just a waste of time?
The problem with online testing
The problem with online psychic testing is that the results aren’t particularly quantifiable – because psychic powers don’t fit into neat little categories. Powers can vary from person to person. While someone might call themselves a medium, they might also display clairvoyant traits. A person who reads Tarot cards might also possess a degree of clairaudience. Put simply, there are very few psychics with pure, undiluted gifts. In addition, if you don’t know whether or not you’ve got certain abilities, then how is a piece of software supposed to diagnose them for you? At the very least, the majority of these tests are something of a hit and miss affair and you ought to take the results with a pinch of salt.
A lack of control
The other thing they fail to take into account is control conditions. In any scientific research into psychic abilities, there is always a ‘dummy run’ that tests for external influences that might somehow interfere with the results of the experiment. Using an Internet test might seem one of the most clinical methods of testing. But if you do have psychic powers and you’re at home or in the office and taking one of these tests, there are plenty of things that could distract or diffuse any abilities you might have, no matter how strong they might be. Unfortunately, the Internet environment does mean that any tests out there that do have some worth are going to be less effective than they could be.
Online tests are also incredibly restrictive in what they can test for – primarily because they are a piece of software floating in cyberspace. The best and most informative tests tend to require at least one other person being involved. Even the famous Zener cards needed someone to hold them and focus on the image of a square, star, circle or waves, so that the psychic could try and use his abilities to fathom what was being looked at.
There have been experiments into telekinetic abilities in which psychics have been presented with objects and have attempted to move them using the powers of their minds. The Stargate Project, devised by the CIA in the 1960s, used psychics who were being tested for remote viewing abilities. They used long-distance targets and teas of scientists to record what was going on at any given moment. Sadly, the facilities to do this are simply not on offer when it comes to online psychic tests. In addition, what these tests can actually test for is incredibly limited, partly due to the lack of human interaction.
Testing for telepathy
Telepathy is one of the more quantifiable gifts, which is often tested using a series of ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions. However, there is no accepted standard through which it is possible to judge whether a person has no telepathic abilities, and there’s no benchmark against which to measure any data. Despite this, online telepathy tests are probably among the more reliable forms of online psychic testing. You can get a good idea of whether or not you have any talent in this department, just by looking at the number of questions you have answered correctly. However, while you might be able to find out that you do have some latent abilities, the lack of an available benchmark means that you have no way of knowing just how pronounced your gifts may be.
Another approach to testing
However, all these problems can be overcome, using the Internet. The first thing to do is to hunt down a respected psychic who offers their services online. Check out their testimonials page and see which branches of psychic activity they specialize in. If you think you have medium powers, then look for a medium. If you think you might be clairvoyant, then look for one who is already established. You can either email your chosen psychic through their website or you can book an online session with them and ask their advice via webcam. Although it’s more expensive, the latter is the better option, as you’ll be able to chat through your thoughts with that psychic, face to face.
In addition, they’ll be able to give you advice on what to do next and possibly even help you identify your gifts or simply ascertain whether you have them or not. The majority of psychics have been through what you’re going through right now; that feeling of confusion as to whether you do actually have psychic powers or whether you’re just imagining it. It’s also worth remembering that psychics are sympathetic, non-judgmental people and it’s highly unlikely that you will be the first person to ask them this question.
The human touch
Believing that you might have psychic abilities can be a difficult thing to go through, as there seems to be no one on hand to help you understand what you may or may not be going through. Even well-established psychics are ridiculed for even saying that they have paranormal abilities, so it’s going to be a lot harder for someone who is just starting to entertain the idea.
However, the best route to take is to make contact with someone who is a professional psychic. While there are plenty of tests out there in cyberspace, the reality is that they have little or no accuracy whatsoever. Psychic gifts are meant to be shared between people, not computers and the best way to discover whether you do have such talents is to make human contact.
