Here's the science...

The worlds of science and the paranormal are drawing ever closer as an eminent psychologist reveals evidence proving psychic abilities are real.

Dr Daryl Bem, a social psychologist at America's prestigious Cornell University, is gearing up to publish the findings of his series of recent studies. And controversially, those findings show that in some people, the brain can reach forward into the future, as well as back into the past.

Across nine different experiments, Dr Bem used well-respected scientific procedures to test people's future-telling abilities, but simply reversed the order in which they ran. For example, subliminal messages are often flashed up in tests, to influence subjects' responses and allow them to answer faster. But Dr Bem flashed them after the subjects had responded.

The results showed that both methods allowed subjects to answer faster, proving that they were able to use what Bem calls 'retroactive' abilities to anticipate future events.

He also found that some people demonstrated these abilities much more strongly than others, suggesting that some folk are much more sensitive to psychic phenomena than others.
