Psychic condemned to death

While more and more people are exploring their interest in all things spiritual, it's worth remembering that not all of us have that freedom. In fact, the life of a Lebanese TV psychic is currently hanging in the balance after a Saudi Arabian court found him guilty of sorcery.

A familiar face throughout the Arab region, thanks to his predictions on popular TV shows, Ali Sibat was arrested back in 2008 while on a pilgrimage to Medina in Saudi Arabia, where any kind of fortune telling is illegal.

Accused of practicing witchcraft by the land's Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, Sibat was subsequently served with a death sentence. According to the judges, "He deserved to be sentenced to death because he had practiced sorcery publicly for several years before millions of viewers."

Mr Sibat was scheduled to be publicly beheaded earlier this month, but received a temporary stay of execution. It remains unclear whether his sentence will be carried out.
