The spiritual side of animals

Human beings aren't alone in having spiritual experiences - animals may too, according to an eminent neurologist.

Kevin Nelson, professor of neurology at the University of Kentucky, has spent years investigating the causes of out-of-body experiences. And his research reveals that they stem from primitive areas of the brain which are also found in other animals.

Says Kevin, "In humans, we know that if we disrupt the (brain) region where vision, sense of motion and orientation in the Earth's gravitational field come together, then out-of-body experiences can be caused. There is absolutely no reason to believe it is any different for a dog, cat, or primate's brain."

Of course, as yet, there's no way of knowing what animals might make of it all. As Kevin says, "Since only humans are capable of language that can communicate the richness of spiritual experience, it is unlikely we will ever know with certainty what an animal subjectively experiences."
