David Lynch on the Art of Meditation

David Lynch, the acclaimed film director of Blue Velvet, pictured and Twin Peaks has been speaking about his spiritual side.

He revealed in an interview with The Guardian that he is a firm believer in meditation and has in fact been practising it for 34 years.

He first learnt it at a centre in LA during the '70s and has been a dedicated follower ever since.

He says: 'I have never missed a meditation in 34 years. I meditate once in the morning and again in the afternoon, for about 20 minutes each time. Then I go about the business of my day. And I find that the joy of doing increases. Intuition increases. The pleasure of life grows. And negativity recedes.'

David is a particular fan of a form known as transcendental meditation and says of it:

'It's the nature of the mind to go to fields of greater happiness. It naturally wants to go. And the deeper you go, the more there is, until you hit 100% pure bliss. Transcendental Meditation is the vehicle that takes you there. It's the experience that does everything.'

So convinced is he of the positive effects on mental wellbeing that he has started his own foundation called: David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace.

It's designed to help kids and teaches in schools gain access to the practice, reduce their stressful and as a result improve grade and emotional well being.
