Worried about getting older? Well according to a new study, old age is something to look forward to as it's likely to be the happiest time of our lives!

Putting pay to the 'grumpy old men/women' stereotype, researchers who interviewed over 30,000 volunteers of all ages discovered that the oldest people in the population tend to be happiest.

The survey revealed that 39% of people aged 88 said they were very happy, compared to 24% of people who were very happy in their late teens and early 20s. Overall, the number of happy people increased by 5% for every ten years.

"The good news is that with age comes happiness" said Yang Yang, a sociologist at the University of Chicago, who carried out the study. "Life gets better in one’s perception as one ages".
